Abstract:
The total contents of Fe, Zn, Cu, Cd, As, Pb, and Mn in soil samples from several sites in
Novi Sad collected in 2001 were used to estimate the level of possible heavy metal contamination
in the urban areas. The data obtained by atomic absorption spectrophotometric techniques were
compared with those of the literature and to the prescriptions of the national legislation on
surface soils. The results showed no considerable contamination by the heavy metals investigated.
