Abstract:
This paper considers the possible impact on animal health due to the use of depleted uranium
(DU) ammunition during the NATO bombing of Serbia and Montenegro in 1999. To assess the possible
effects of DU, the following relevant biochemical blood parameters were analyzed: concentration of
plasma albumins, albumin polymers, isoenzyme activities of LDH5, and electrophoresis
patterns. All blood samples of the animals (cows and sheep) were taken in a region bombed by
DU-containing ammunition. The obtained results are related to the possible impact of DU in the
environment.
